Orthopedics studies pathologies and diseases of the musculoskeletal system, either congenital or acquired as a result of abnormal development and traumas. This includes bones, joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles. The main aim of orthopedics is the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of such pathologies. Among other things, orthopedic doctors treat the following diseases:

  • flat feet, clubfoot and curvature of feet;
  • dislocation of joints and fractures of bones;
  • diseases accompanied by inflammatory processes in the joints;
  • congenital pathologies, for example, joint dysplasia;
  • osteochondrosis;
  • deforming osteosis;
  • Ewing’s tumor;
  • rheumatoid arthritis;
  • osteogenic sarcoma.

When should I visit an orthopedist?

As a rule, pain in the bones and joints is the most common reason for visiting an orthopedic specialist. Also,  one should pay attention to swelling of the joints, stiffness or bad posture, stoop, clubfoot.

Orthopedics: treatment and diagnostics

Before treatment, patients undergo a  visual examination by a doctor and answer several questions. At the same time, the anatomical structure is assessed. If necessary, patients might need a fluoroscopy and/or CT/MRI if a serious pathology is suspected.
